Important Note

As of October 13th, 2022, Aikido Finance released a new IBKR integration. This guide is now outdated. Please visit Aikido Finance to connect your IBKR brokerage account.

Once you connect your Interactive Brokers account with Aikido, you will be able to access automated trading and create a quantitative portfolio in minutes.

To connect your Interactive Brokers account with your Premium Aikido Finance account you will need the following information.

  • Your IBKR Username
  • Your IBKR Password

First steps first – you have to connect your broker account with Aikido so we can send the trades!

Navigate to the Broker Login page. You can find this page from your profile dropdown menu in the top right; it says ‘Connect Broker’.

For most people, connecting your broker should take less than 5 minutes.

Trading mode

You can switch between ‘Live Trading’ and ‘Paper Trading’ mode.
‘Live Trading’ uses your real Interactive Brokers account – ie. real cash.
‘Paper Trading’ uses a simulated/mock Interactive Brokers account – they normally give you $100,000 to play around with.

Enter your Interactive Brokers username and password into the two fields available. Ensure you are using the correct credentials here!!

NOTE #1: Before you can make the integration, please ensure you have configured 2-factor authentication to allow integration in Interactive Brokers. This means you will only authenticate through the app.

NOTE #2: Ensure that you logged out of Interactive Brokers before attempting to integrate with Aikido. You can only be logged into Interactive Brokers in one place: The Aikido website, or the Interactive Brokers Website.

NOTE #3: Ensure that you have an IBKR Pro account rather than an IBKR Lite account. If you have a Lite account, that’s okay – it’s pretty quick to setup a Pro account (its free, don’t worry).

Once you click ‘Connect Account’, the integration process will take a couple minutes, don’t leave the page until the integration is complete.

Broker Dashboard

If your integration is successful, you will automatically be brought to the broker dashboard. You can also navigate to this page from the profile dropdown in the top right under ‘Connect Broker’.

The broker dashboard shows your connection status, market status, available cash, and other metadata.

If you have multiple accounts, you can switch between them by choosing the appropriate Account ID from the dropdown on the left of the screen(most people just have one account)

Start Trading

If your brokerage account is connected successfully and the market is open, then you can create a fully-automated quantitative portfolio. Check out this article on how to do just that!

Common Problems & Error Messages

1. Incorrect Username or Password

If you see this error when you try to integrate, then please ensure your username and password combination are correct. ie. You are using the correct Interactive Brokers credentials. You can verify this by logging into your Interactive Brokers account through their website. If you have forgotten your username or password then this can be reset via the Interactive Brokers website.

2. You have an Interactive Brokers LITE account

You must have an IBKR Pro account to integrate with Aikido. Most people will have this automatically, but if by chance you are on Lite, go ahead and set up a Pro account – it’s pretty quick (and free, of course).

3. Error establishing a connection with your broker

If this error occurs, try integrating your broker again. Ensure the following:

  • All your credentials are correct,
  • You have configured 2-factor authentication
  • You are not logged into the Interactive Brokers website at the same time as trying to integrate with Aikido.

If the problem persists, please reach out to us via our contact page.
